Only 5 days to go to the Transbaviaans and my first event fundraiser challenge for 50 Bicycles.
Training has definitely not gone as planned with only two rides in the last two weeks. A good long ride of 90km’s two weeks ago, but with 2000m of climbing. My last training ride was a short 50km dash up to the top of Breedts Nek with Konrad, Angus and Garth. It was damn cold at the start registering as low as -5.9 deg C on my Garmin. Certainly the coldest I have ever ridden in. You can click on the links above to check them out on Strava.
This weekend was spent on cleaning and servicing the bike, as well as getting all my packing done, clothing and nutrition. Not sure if I will be eating everything I am taking, but will certainly have a good go at it. We leave for the race on Thursday and will be splitting the trip down in two, and staying in Colesburg, before heading to Willowmore for race briefing and drop off of check point 4 bag. Then on to Jeffreys Bay for the night. It will then be an early morning start to get back to the start of the race in Willowmore at 10am on Saturday.
On the fundraising front, I have raised R2 620.00 which means 1 of 50 bicycles for education in the bag. You can donate by clicking on the link in the menu at the top.
Reblogged this on Francois Pienaar and commented:
TransBaviaans is such a wonderful ride. A good mix of training, logistical prep and mind over matter makes this a true challenge. Reading the blog below I recall my prep before trans last yr. I caught a major wake up in July and did two 100+km training rides. This along with my base was enough to see me to end in 13:40m.
I’ll be riding again next yr and with experience on my side, I’ll be setting some lofty goals.
Sad to miss it this year.
